Client Requirements
The client sought to redesign the layout of the school premises, which originally featured a plot that was wide and deep in form. The existing layout placed the primary school building in a position that obstructed visibility and access to the rear portion of the site.
Architectural Design
In preparation for Thailand’s integration into the ASEAN community, Mr. Chaiyos Tanprapast, Director of Praphatsorn Wittaya School, envisioned a master plan revision for the campus. The original site layout—characterized by its wide yet deep configuration—resulted in the primary school building obscuring the back of the site. To resolve this, the design team proposed a new academic building to replace the existing structure.
The core design concept was to establish a new knowledge hub that would not only enhance the school’s functionality but also serve as a recognizable landmark. The aim was to create a building visible and welcoming to students, parents, and passersby, symbolizing the school’s commitment to educational excellence.
In response to contextual conditions and site limitations, the design was synthesized and interpreted into what is now the PBS CENTER. The building houses key functional spaces such as classrooms, a library, meeting rooms, a cooperative store, E-Classroom facilities, and central administrative offices.
A key architectural highlight is the meeting room, which cantilevers 15 meters from the main structure. Supported only at the edge columns, without central supports, this feature creates a dramatic visual axis that allows views through the building and into the heart of the school grounds, enhancing openness and engagement with the surrounding environment.
